RIP BLOG 2013 - 2020

Hey! Fun fact! 'Blogger' is dying out and everyone now uses WordPress. I know this because for the past week I've been trying to bag myself an internship and so many jobs requirement is a knowledge of WordPress'. I'm hoping to develop my knowledge over at my new blog site.   SO if you love me, or just love my writing, you can now go over to WordPress.  Bye!  Arabelle Akinfe

Why Depop Sucks Now

I  don't remember how old I was when I first used the virtual thrift store, Depop. It was either 2014 or 2015. I know this because I brought one of those American Apparel tennis skirts that you  just  needed to be classified as grungy and cool according to Tumblr. This was during the era of being obsessed with The Arctic Monkeys, The 1975s, or The Neighbourhood.  Ah, the good days.  When you could buy a £30 skirt for half the price at Depop.  Why Depop Kinda Sucks Aliexpress Resellers       Definition:  Sellers that buy clothes on Aliexpress for a cheaper price and sell of Depop for double. The description would state that the clothes "will take 2-4 weeks shipping". The pictures used to describe the pieces of clothing are usually a celebrity or Instagram influencer.          The reason they suck:  The 2-4 week shipping is awful. There's a chance the clothes will be of bad quality and most likely lo...

What is the Purpose of Life? A Response to Caroline Calloway

YOLO This week, during my scroll through Instagram's, explore page, I came across a post by the infamous Caroline Calloway. You know, the girl that famous on Instagram for going to Cambridge University. The caption of her selfie read  "Something I wrote in my diary yesterday: "What is the purpose of life? To be happy. If my ability to be happy is fundamentally impaired, does that mean that my life is fundamentally more purposeless?" A postcard for you from depression!"  Caroline's caption, along with my recent binge of Hulu's  Looking for Alaska  (look at last post), made me start to think about the meaning of life and I think I've cracked it! The few years I spent doing philosophy at sixth form taught me about Aristotle. A Greek philosopher with the longest (and most interesting) chapter in our heavy school textbook. He said, “Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” At the time I didn't questi...

Am I A Manic Pixie Dream Girl?

Just like most people I’ve spent my quarantine on TikTok. Mostly observing and not actually making any because I’m far too anxious to throw-it-back to a song addressing how much of a ‘savage’ I am. No disrespect. The people who do make TikTok's are obviously more confident than me and look amazing dancing. A recent stubble on TikTok is if you’re the main character or not. I used to believe that we are all the main character of our own television shows that is life but as I watched Hulu's adaptation of John Green’s famous, 'Looking for Alaska', I have come to the conclusion that I am not the main character but maybe the Manic Pixie Dream Girl instead.  I first learnt the term Manic Pixie Dream Girl from a Youtube video talking about the movies 500 Days of Summer and Elizabethtown. Nathan Rabin said the MPDG "exists solely in the fevered imaginations of sensitive writer-directors to teach brooding soulful young men to embrace life and its infinite mysteries and adven...

Reaching my peak

I've come to realise that I may have reached my peak. Well, my writing peak. See when I blogged every day I truly think I was a better writer. I was writing for myself (and the few annoying people that chose to read it in secondary school). Now I feel like I have so much pressure to be good at writing and I suck at it. Especially now that my university lecturer in journalism has made it mandatory for us to write a blog. See, when someone makes something mandatory, you do not want to do. I probably wouldn't even be able to write this blog post without Grammarly. It's like somehow along the way I forgot how grammar and spelling worked and now Grammarly is highlighting every word I write. This is probably an issue for most of Generation Z. With our iPhones autocorrecting everything we write, what's the point of writing something well.  After reading an old review Tavi Gevinson did on the book 'The Virgin Suicides', it's inspired me to start writing again. It...

Be Yourself at University

At the beginning of university, I was very shy. Instead of going out and meeting new people. I would spend my evening face-timing, my friends, from home. On the third day of being in this new city, I finally decided to go on a night out with a girl I had met around the university campus. She wanted to do a pres with a couple of her other friends and I was very nervous and excited to meet more people and finally live the university dream that I had made up in my head. I got ready in my accommodation for the night out and while I was getting ready I remembered my friend from home, Jeffery's, advice. He would always say the remedy to fight nerves is two shots of vodka before you go out. I'm definitely not the biggest alcohol drinker as I could never handle the taste but I followed his words of wisdom. I was starting to feel more comfortable and less nervous as I made my way to my new friend's accommodation. Once I was there with her and her friends, everyone started taki...

Making Friends at University

All the youtube videos and articles on university always mention how university is so much fun but they never really mention how depressing university can get. All because of how lonely university can be. In my case, I decided to go to a university that was 2 hours away from home and where no one from my sixth form went to so I felt very lonely during the beginning of uni. I was always scared about messaging people about how lonely I was feeling because I didn't want there pity. I think that's why no one mentions the loneliness of university life in all the youtube videos and articles- they don't want pity. I'm in my second term of university and I have a great group of friends, but it wasn't easy. This blog post is for the people that are going through their lonely period at uni as I will be telling you exactly how to make the right friends at uni. me and some of my cheer squad (OCT2019) Joining a group/club-  Everyone is looking to make a new friend in a c...

Being an old soul with film // HUJI app

Hello,  people that read my blog! In the time I've been absent from blogging, sometimes that I've really been obsessed with is the 80/90s. I've been listening to the Now and Then movie playlist every day recently. Not to mention watching YouTube 80s fashion lookbooks all half term! Something that I've been really liking is the photography app HUJI. HUJI makes everyday selfies look like you took them on one of those expensive film cameras. I'm literally in LOVE with the app and if you're loving 80s/90s trends - you will definitely love the app too. (not sponsored btw, I just love the app). BELOW I've included my favourite photos I've taken. (P.S. my underwear is in the background.) love,  Arabelle Akinfe insta~ arabelleakinfe twitter~ arabelleakinfex pinterest~ arabelleakinfe

NEW YEAR 2018 | MY GOALS

Okay um, where did 2017 go? It seems like just a few months ago I was going crazy about prom and my GCSEs. I literally laugh at myself when I think about how long it took me to find my perfect prom dress and how insane I was about my grades. 2017 has been an amazing year me wise but next year I need to focus on other things which might help me become a better person. There are so many things I didn't do that I wish I did so bad, take blogging for example. I'm so ashamed that I haven't posted anything in so long and extremely sorry! But, there's never any point dwelling on the bad things in life and what you could have done instead of what you did do. Time to focus on the future. These are my 2018 goals that intend on following. Hopefully, this post will give a little inside into what exactly you want your goals to be this year. ENJOY! Camera: iPhone 6 | Edited: Snapseed, VSCO Cam 1. Make more YouTube videos YouTube is something I love to watch. I'm pret...

how to: feel beautiful and confident

GET THIS! You know who's beautiful? Read the first word in the last sentence. I saw that on a twitter comment and thought it was a mixture of the cutest and cringeist thing in the world. Kinda what you'll use to describe me in a way. Anyway today's post is a google search I found myself searching in Google today. Some of the techniques I found worked I guess but I decided to give you guys my take out on feeling beautiful! Enjoy! 1) BEING HEALTHY I'm not gonna tell you to eat healthy, workout, and get your daily 8 hours of sleep because I don't do any of those myself. It's literally 11pm at night as I type this and I have to wake up at 6am in the morning for school and the only time I do exercise is when I have to run for the train. But, doing those things will help. For me, being healthy is basically feeling health. AKA when my skin is clear and when I pick out a slamming outfit for school. If you get what I mean... 2) LOOKING OUT THE BRIGHT SIDE Yeah, ...

favourite outfit bits & pieces

I've recently started wearing my own clothes to school because I am now in sixth form. It's quite exciting and different. I've been wearing a uniform to school every since I was 5 years old so the change has been very exciting. Wearing uniform to school has sorta given me my inspiration to write this post about my favourite autumn school outfit bits and pieces. I hope enjoy and get some inspiration about what to wear if you're in sixth form, college, university or regular school where you get to wear your own clothes. Panel patch jeans have been something I've been seeing a lot all over my Instagram feed for awhile. The thing I really like about these jeans are the multiple kinds of colours that are on the jeans. Like, you could be wearing a top that suits dark coloured denim and wearing the panel patch jeans since it has multiple different denim coloured on it. My favourite pair is from Brandy Melville (middle) which are just £30! Square neckline tops ha...

ootd: gingham high

Hello everyone! I am extremely sorry that I've been nowhere to be found this summer. I literally have no excuse this time because it's summer and I should be posting. That is why have decided to make this blog post special by giving you guys an OOTD. I haven't camera-whore(d) in a while so I do hope you enjoy this post! ☺ STORY BEHIND OUTFIT I feel like I've been seeing everyone wearing gingham prints this summer and the straight neck style top. I didn't show you this in the picture but the back of the dress has a bow tie cut out sort of thing which I feel looks really feminine and cute. This is a great outfit to wear on a summery type day or even a cold day with cute tights and big jacket. OUTFIT  DRESS: Zaful ACCESSORIES GLASSES: Attitude Clothing CHOKER: Attitude Clothing Hope you enjoyed this OOTD! There's more to come so don't forget to follow my blog on Bloglovin' and my social media! Thank you!

Cheap Everyday Makeup Products

Hello everyone! I've recently threw away a bunch of makeup because I finally realised how pointless it was. So today I thought I could share my essential pieces with everyone reading this. Also in my opinion this is all the basic essentials everyone needs. Especially if you are going on trip where you only need a few bits of makeup this summer. Eyebrows: Anastasia Brow Definer For my eyebrows I use the Anastasia brow wiz mainly because its's so quick to do when using it. I literally take 2 minutes filling in my brows with this product. This is one of the products I will always keep re buying. I also feel it's important to mention how I've had the brow wiz since march and I still have so much product left. Foundation: Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid  I have dry skin so I'm always using foundations that aren't matte. Till a few weeks ago I had found it hard to get an inexpensive foundation that is also high coverage like the one I use now. This one is satin...

Where have I been | GCSEs, Prom, 16, School

Hello friends! I've been finding it a bit hard to get back into the blogging spirit again. There were literally days where I've stared at my blog trying to figure how I can start posting. That's the reason yesterday's blog post was so bad. If you haven't seen it, go look at it. It was basically a shameless self promo to my YouTube channel the entire post. I'm sorry. I hadn't been blogging because I had exams meaning I had to study. Even though it seems like no amount of studying would make those papers any easier. This is way it was so awkward to take photos for my blog agin too. I haven't camera whored in ages, which is why my posing is a bit awkward too. Arggg! Even writing is weird. I don't know what to talk about!    So here's the things I've been up to in the months I haven't been blogging. GCSEs   My GCSEs were so hard. Like, super hard! I'd never been more stressed out in my short life before. I took history, ICT, art f...

Summer Makeup Routine

Hey everyone! Woah I haven't blogged in ages! Summer is just around the corner and I don't know about you but I'm very excited! It's not like I'm going to be doing anything exciting during summer. I plan on taking lots of pictures for my blog and my Instagram. If I haven't mentioned this before I'm trying to grow my Instagram account. I honestly feel as if Instagram is becomes such a great way of social networking and growing bigger so that's what I want to do. I'll be taking pictures for my blog just because it seems like people like it. I like it. It's sort of like a visual diary I get to share with everyone who reads my blog.  But, for now I've filmed a summer makeup routine that I posted on my YouTube channel: ugharabelle a few days ago. This will give you an idea of the makeup I'll be wearing in the photos. I rarely ever change my makeup so I'll always be current unless I say so. Have a great day! Thanks for reading and don...

5 minutes, lets go.

It is currently 13:15pm and lunch starts at 1:20pm meaning I five minutes to write something on this blog that might be eligible to upload. I like having control. Is that weird? Having control of things makes me feel powerful which tbh is probably a bad thing since I’m pretty sure that how bad world leaders begin. 1:17pm. Wow, I take long to write. Lunch is about to start yet here I am sitting in my schools ICT room, blogging. Dang! I am a weirdo. Normal people wouldn’t be doing this. I won’t really be doing. This isn’t me. But lately, I’ve enjoyed being the girl sitting in the back of the room not saying anything. It’s been exciting, weirdly. 1:19pm. One more minute. Just one more minute till lunch begins and this computer room becomes filled with a bunch of year 7s ready to playing Club Penguin or Stardoll or MovieStarPlanet. That’s probably an inaccurate prediction of what 11 and 12 year olds are doing but oh well. All I know is that when I was their age, online games were the...

new me, new blog name

Oh hey! You most likely don't remember little ol' me, Arabelle because I haven't blogged in ages. I've been busy- and I know that's like my number one main excuse but I actually have been busy. I can't exactly say what I've been doing but you'll know soon enough. In other news' I'm not happy with what my blogs become. Before my blog was a place where I can share my personal thoughts and ideas of stuff and I guess now it's become someplace where I have to post, or I have to post that. not anymore! Don't get me wrong I looove blogging and talking about fashion, but I would loove to make my blog more personal. I first made this blog because I loooved talking about my random situations, inspired by my favourite (and still favourite) tv show, awkward. So, now I'm going back to my old roots of blogging, but don't worry I'm still gonna be a 'fashion blogger' I guess. I just gonna be more 'personal fahion blogger'- ...

What I'm Currently Craving

Hello everybody and welcome to my blog! You know that period after Christmas where you had so much money from grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles. That lovely period is over for me. To be completely honest that period ending after Miss Guided decided to have a full shop sale. (However, I did get some lovely things). I currently have no money and it's literally killing me. Here's a tip if you're broke: don't go 'window shopping' or it will make you cry. Something that always helps me when I have no money but a passion for putting stuff in my basket is making a wishlist. I used to make wishlist all the time! I want to bring back the wishlist so tell me if you liked this blog post in the comments below. Without further ado, here are my current cravings! 1) New Look Blue Puffer Jacket- £29.99 Imagine wearing this jacket over an all black outfit. When I first saw this I honestly screamed at how beautiful it was. A million outfit ideas started running aroun...
